LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Music producer and convicted murderer Phil Spector says life behind bars is driving him "insane".

"This 24/7 lockdown life is slowly driving me insane and killing (me)," Spector, 69, wrote in a letter to a fan that was posted online on Friday.

Spector, who revolutionized pop music in the 1960s with his "Wall of Sound" production technique, was convicted in April of the 2003 murder of actress Lana Clarkson and later sentenced to a minimum of 19 years in prison.

In the letter written in July to a fan that was obtained by pop culture website Gawker.com, Spector complained that he was unable to "say goodbye" to anyone, or organize his business affairs before going to prison.

"How cruel but apparently not unusual," Spector wrote. "And they call this a 'civilized' society. Bugs live more civilized beneath their rocks!".

Spector wrote the four-page, handwritten letter to a woman in Texas, sending it from prison in California.

At the height of his fame, Spector worked with The Ronettes, The Beatles, Cher, the Ramones and Leonard Cohen, but in the 1980s he withdrew from music. He quietly married singer and actress Rachelle Short in 2006.

CHEATING HUSBAND CRAZY GLUED

CHILTON, Wis. – A man whose penis was glued to his stomach testified Tuesday that a motel tryst with a girlfriend involving a bondage fantasy turned painful and humiliating after his wife, a second girlfriend and another woman burst into the room and harassed him because of his cheating ways.

The 37-year-old Fond du Lac man told Calumet County Circuit Court Judge Timothy Van Akkeren that during the July 30 ordeal, which lasted about 30 minutes, he was punched in the face twice. The woman he had gone to the motel to meet, Therese Ziemann, super glued his penis to his stomach while at least two of the other women watched, the man said.

"I was telling them, you can't let her do it. This is assault," the man testified.

Akkeren ruled there was enough evidence for the case to go to trial.

Ziemann, 48, of Menasha, Wendy Sewell, 43, of Kaukauna, Michelle Belliveau, 43, of Neenah and the man's 30-year-old wife are each charged with being party to felony false imprisonment, a felony. Ziemann is also charged with misdemeanor fourth-degree sexual assault in the gluing incident.

Belliveau pleaded not guilty to the charge Tuesday. The others asked for time to file motions before entering pleas.

All the women except the man's wife glared at him during his nearly 90 minutes of testimony. They all declined to comment on their way out of court.

The Associated Press is not naming the man or his wife because he is the alleged victim of sexual abuse.

The man testified that he had developed sexual relationships with Ziemann and Sewall, but that Sewell had mentioned ending things in late July. He knew Belliveau because she was Ziemann's sister.

The man said he agreed to be tied to the bed because he and Ziemann had talked about bondage and he had agreed to pay for some nice fabric she would buy to tie him.

He said he was startled by a knock at the door, and worried it might be Ziemann's husband. He realized the "fun had stopped" after his wife and the other women entered the room.

"The rest came in and the hurting trip began," said the man, who testified in shackles because he is jailed in an unrelated case on theft and child abuse charges. "It got chaotic real quick, real fast. ... I was asking everybody in the room to cut me loose."

The man testified that his wife was the first to leave, and that the others left "in a panic" when he began to struggle free of his bonds. It took him another 2-3 minutes to get free and run naked outside and seek help, he said.

Sewell's attorney, Nila Robinson, said she would seek to have the charge against her client dismissed because of a lack of evidence.

"The inference that she was a participant in restraining (the man) is not justified. Just standing around is not enough," Robinson said.

She called the man dishonest, a liar and a con man. He tricked the women he called his girlfriends by telling them he loved them and wanted futures with them, Robinson said.

Attorneys for the other women said there were no plea bargain talks under way with prosecutors, and that they intend to fight the charges.

LOS ANGELES – Miss California USA Carrie Prejean, who stirred up a hornet's nest of controversy when she said gays shouldn't be allowed to marry, got the word from pageant poobah Donald Trump on Wednesday: "You're fired."

Trump and other pageant leaders said Prejean was being sacked not because of her controversial remarks but because she hadn't been holding up her end of the agreement she signed when she entered the pageant.

"This was a decision based solely on contract violations, including Ms. Prejean's unwillingness to make appearances on behalf of the Miss California USA organization," the California pageant's executive director, Keith Lewis, said in a statement.

Lewis had complained at a news conference last month that Prejean was skipping Miss California USA events while speaking out against gay marriage at unsanctioned appearances.

After the complaints reached Trump, who owns Miss California USA's parent organization, the mogul decided to give her a second chance and keep her on. On Wednesday he changed his mind and sided with Lewis.

"I told Carrie she needed to get back to work and honor her contract with the Miss California USA Organization and I gave her the opportunity to do so," Trump said in a statement. "Unfortunately it just doesn't look like it is going to happen."

Prejean spokeswoman Melany Ethridge declined to comment, saying she hadn't been able to reach the former beauty queen since the announcement of her ouster.

Prejean told the television show Access Hollywood she would never have been let go from the pageant had she not replied the way she did to a judge's question about gay marriage.

"It's just because of my answer, I think," Prejean said Wednesday shortly after learning of Trump's decision. "None of this would be happening right now if I just said, 'Yeah, gays should get married.'"

She also denied being derelict in her post-pageant duties.

"I've tried to reach out to them and I've done several appearances and I'm going to be presenting at the Special Olympics this weekend as an honorary guest," Prejean told the TV show. "I mean, I've been cooperating with them. I don't see why this is happening."

Pageant officials said Prejean would be replaced by the Miss California pageant's first runner-up, Miss Malibu Tami Farrell. They had announced last month that Farrell was being named a special ambassador to fill in for Prejean at any events she didn't attend.

"Carrie is a beautiful young woman and I wish her well as she pursues her other interests," Trump said.

Prejean, 22, was competing in the Miss USA competition, where she was first runner-up, when she answered gossip blogger Perez Hilton's question about gay marriage by saying wedding vows should be reserved for men and women.

"No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised," she said.

After the response made her a lightning rod for the gay-rights debate she began speaking to crowds opposed to gay marriage, violating a section of her contract that required she clear unsanctioned appearances with pageant officials. About the same time, seminude photos of her began to surface on the Internet.

Although the photos were mild, pageant officials said she also violated her contract by not disclosing their existence to them.

When Trump initially decided to keep Prejean on, Lewis' co-executive director, former Miss USA Shanna Moakler resigned in protest.

"My faith has been restored in the Miss Universe Organization and with Donald Trump," Moakler said in a statement after Wednesday's announcement. She didn't say whether she planned to return to the organization.

Most of the native Ypsilantians, our parents mostly, came from southern states in the early 40'sand 50s of the 20th century searching for industrial work away from the poverty of southern farm life.

Automotive and aircraft industrial plants hired lots of workers to build cars and planes for WWII. Which in turn brought commerce, home building and a boost to the local economy.

The music we grew up listening to was Top 40, urban and country. A variety of styles that somehow mixed together in this one unique geographic location:

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The name of a new bluegrass festival in Ypsilanti is stirring up some controversy.

The festival, "YpsiTuckey Jamboree," is scheduled for this summer.

Erik Dotzauer, executive director of the Depot Town Community Development Corp., told the Ann Arbor News he wants to educate people on the heritage behind "YpsiTucky".

Some critics said the term YpsiTuckey has a negative connotation and has been used to show negative aspects of Ypsilanti's southern heritage.

As of now, organizers said they would not be changing the name.

Put to rest the notions of an American Idol shakeup (WHY CAN'T THEY GET RID OF PAULA ABDUL????) FIRE HER ASS AND HURRY THE HELL UP!!!, Kara DioGuardi told reporters during a conference call Monday, hours after FOX announced that the songwriter and producer will join the show as a judge.

DioGuardi, a music industry powerhouse, has penned and produced hits for Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson and Christina Aguilera (to name a few). She will meet up for the first time with Idol’s original judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul on Tuesday for the New York auditions of the upcoming season, which will air on FOX in January 2009.

Does Abdul, Idol’s lone female for seven seasons, feel threatened? DioGuardi doesn’t think so.

“I haven’t spoken to her. I would think she’d be excited,” DioGuardi said, noting that she and Abdul collaborated on the Kylie Minogue hit “Spinning Around” in 2000.

Fans who were surprised with the announcement that Idol will add another judge are not alone. “I almost fell off the chair,” DioGuardi said of hearing from the show’s producers, who approached her for the gig and are hoping to create “a new chemistry as well as keeping the old” with the expansion of the judges’ panel.

DioGuardi told reporters she doesn’t know where she’ll sit or how four judges will break a tie during the auditions.

“I’m a little nervous,” admitted DioGuardi, who said her approach to judging is simple. “I’m going to be a straight shooter and say it like I see it and maintain that philosophy.”

So is she more of a Paula or a Simon? “I’m somebody who’s really honest and gives an opinion,” she said. “If I feel I need to be hard, I will be. And if I feel I need to be more nurturing, I will be.”

One thing DioGuardi will have to get used to is being recognized. While she’s known as one of the best in the music business, “I’m not a household name,” she said. “I’m putting some money into buying some makeup.” – Monica Rizzo
