IGGY POP OPEN UP AND BLEED....

We are totally immersed in reading the fantastic biography of James Newell Osterberg Jr. aka Iggy Stooge and Iggy Pop. Open up and Bleed by Paul Trynka. Must confess we grew up very near to Jim and the Dum Dum boys and yet we dismissed the music of the Stooges as "guy" music. Just recently my friend Heather Harris the fabulous rock photographer from LA has begun educating me on the boys from Ann Arbor. I thought we'd share a couple of lessons from today...

GOREVETTE! SNARKY ROCKERS

Nikki Corvette, the original Rock'N'Roll Girl from Detroit, meets Amy Gore, Gore Gore Girls' leading lady.

When Robert Matheu of Creem Magazine introduced the two at Spaceland in Los Angeles in 2004, stars aligned. Corvette and Gore quickly became kindred spirits and started writing songs together once Corvette moved from LA to Detroit in 2005. Gorevette now becomes part of Detroit's new R'n'R era. Lianna Castillo (Gore Gore Girls) and Al King (Powertrane) round out the lineup. Listen and watch carefully... history is being made.

WILLY (MINK) DEVILLE RIP

Willy (Mink) DeVille – August 25, 1950 – August 6, 2009

It seems fitting that I write this on August 22th because not only is this my mother’s birthday, but it is also Willy DeVille’s birthday. Today he would have been 59. Instead on August 6, 2009 he succumbed to Pancreatic Cancer. Coming hot on the heels of Michael Jackson’s death I can say with no reservations that this one affected me much more. In 1978 I was fortunate to see him play live in Buffalo, N.Y. Mink DeVille played on the same bill with Elvis Costello & the Attractions and Nick Lowe & Rockpile. The night was magical all of the bands were amazing, however the brooding, dark, leader of the band Mink DeVille pulled you in and pushed you away at the same time.



He made you want to hear more and challenged you to define what it was he was actually doing with the music. Although Mink DeVille was signed as a “Punk” band in the 70’s Willy’s range was so much fuller, he spent the bulk of his career exploring the nether reaches of music, yet always with a soulful rock ‘n roll flair.

Willy bounced from city to city and record label to record label over the years while battling his heroin addiction. Somehow through it all he put out one wonderful record after another. “Cabretta” produced by Jack Nitzche and released in 1977 was a what brought him to Buffalo in 1978, “Spanish Stroll” was the European pick off that album, and the cover of Moon Martin’s song “Cadillac Walk” it a true gem. Although Willy had many great albums, “Le Chat Bleu” – with his first wife (and my cat’s namesake) Toots on the cover was an album that could be considered almost perfect, there isn’t a bad song in the bunch. Willy was able to co-write with one of his mentors, Doc Pomus on that album and you can feel the Drifters come through. He later released “Backstreets of Desire” with an absolutely amazing version of “Hey Joe”. If you have never heard it, you MUST listen to it.




Although Willy DeVille started out with the Ramones, Patti Smith, Television, Blondie, and the Talking Heads at CBGBs – he never achieved the notoriety that they did, he did however outlast them all in creativity. Constantly producing and always reaching a new pinnacle in each genre that he explored. The only thing that keeps me from weeping over his death is the fact that he left us such a huge catalog of wonderful music.

THE SNARKIES LOSE TWICE!!!!

The Snarkies lost TWICE!!! We are just stunned! First Dancing with the Stars picks the little gymnast! What??? Cheryl or Tony would have been perfect, either pair would have been sweet. Even Mark was stunned that they won!!


Unbelievable but at least the little gymnast could dance but ballroom? NO!


At the very least this was not as much of a rip off as Mel B losing to the idiot race car driver though. That was the worst ever. Maks and Mel B haven't been topped yet in our not humble opinions.


Then we moved to American IDOL!


KRIS OVER ADAM??? Kris is talented and a good musician but do you really think he can follow DAVID COOK? OH HELL NO..... ADAM could have though!


Week after week this entire season ADAM brought it! He morphed into every category they threw at him. He is absolutely fabulous on every level. He is an IDOL. Sorry Kris is too bland however talented and cute, Adam blows him right off that stage. Luckily they will both get record deals. Let's see what happens with their release numbers.... hmmmm


All we can say is that vote had to be awfully close.... Also the week before the final the call in numbers fro Adam weren't working and transferring votes over to Kris's line. We resorted to texting instead. The Idol Producers really need to work out a newer more effect voting system.


On the whole both shows were really great this year and every participant really gave the best to entertain and we were really having a blast each weekwatching both shows.


We thank them all for their huge efforts!

Woody Allen Objects!

We find this story particularly obnoxious as Mr Allen is worried about his "reputation" being endangered by Mia Farrow possibly testifying in court on his trade mark infringement suit.

He didn't seem to worry all that much about running off with Farrow's way too young adopted daughter... His reputation as far as we are concerned was shot many years ago. The old creepy child molester. Why he was allowed to get away with the "crimes" he did and then cry to the tune of 10 million bucks over use of his image. Who the heck would want his picture on anything?

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Lawyers for film director Woody Allen asked a court on Monday to prevent American Apparel from calling his wife Soon-Yi Previn and his ex-girlfriend Mia Farrow as witnesses in an upcoming trial.
Allen sued the U.S. clothing company for trademark infringement more than a year ago seeking more than $10 million after his image was used on billboards in New York and Los Angeles without his consent.


In court papers filed Monday, Allen's lawyers said a possible witness list provided by American Apparel Inc. included Allen, Farrow, Previn, his sister Letty Aronson and Hustler magazine founder Larry Flynt.
The motion filed in Manhattan federal court asks for a court order preventing American Apparel from calling witnesses and introducing evidence "concerning Mr. Allen's personal and family life."

The lawyers said any plan to put Farrow on the stand was "part of a brutish attempt to smear and intimidate Mr. Allen." We think Mr. Allen smeared his own reputation all on his own. He should have gone to jail for the crimes he commited against Farrow's young child. Anyone with less attorney money would have.

Stephen "Stevie" Ray Vaughan (October 3, 1954 – August 27, 1990) was an American
blues-rock guitarist, whose broad appeal made him an influential electric blues guitarist. In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Stevie Ray Vaughan #7 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time,[2] and Classic Rock Magazine ranked him #3 in their list of the 100 Wildest Guitar Heroes in 2007.



On August 25 and August 26, 1990, Vaughan and Double Trouble finished the summer portion of the In Step Tour with shows at Alpine Valley Music Theatre, just outside of East Troy, Wisconsin. The show also featured The Robert Cray Band (with the Memphis Horns, Wayne Jackson and Andrew Love) and Eric Clapton, who played the closing set, then brought all the musicians back onstage for an encore jam.



Double Trouble drummer Chris Layton later recalled his last conversation with Vaughan, and remembered Vaughan saying backstage that he had to call his girlfriend, Janna Lapidus, before heading out the door to board a helicopter for the flight back to Chicago, Illinois, where Lapidus was staying. (The helicopters had been booked by Double Trouble's tour manager Skip Rickert through Omni Flights.)



The musicians had expected a long bus ride back to Chicago. However, Vaughan was informed by a member of Clapton's crew that three seats were open on one of the helicopters returning to Chicago with Clapton's crew, enough for Vaughan, his brother Jimmie, and Jimmie's wife Connie. It turned out there was only one seat left;


Vaughan requested it from his brother, who obliged. At 12:44 a.m. pilot Jeffrey Browne guided the helicopter off the ground. Shortly after takeoff the helicopter crashed into a ski slope and all five on board were killed. Although the crash occurred only 0.6 miles from the takeoff point, it went unnoticed by those at the concert site.


The search for the wreckage began at 5:00 a.m., finally being located two hours later with the help of its locator beacon. The cause of the crash was believed to have been pilot error.
